The Journey of 1000 Decluttering…
It often feels like we don’t have time to organize, especially when we share spaces with other people, but honestly, all you need is to find 20 minutes in your day to finish up one project or space. Pick a place like your desk that needs to be tidied up and quickly break it up into categories: File, Toss, Recycle, and To Do. Finito!
Furniture As Storage: An ottoman to store linens, a bed with drawers underneath or at least enough height to store some under-the-bed bins. If you’re buying a new one, think about whether one with shelves and/or drawers might work for you.
Shelves, shelves, shelves: In small spaces, you’ve got to maximize ALL of the space. Can you hang shelves above your desk for extra books, papers or pictures? If your desk is too small, maybe a hanging shelf in another room can handle the extra load. Bulletin boards and magnetic boards are also great places to put school reminders, travel plans etc. These don’t require a lot of space, but can be super helpful for getting things off surfaces.
Get Rid of Things: Chances are you don’t need most of the papers that are piled up everywhere. If you haven’t worn that _______ for three years, give it to someone who will! Clearing out even a few items will make you feel so much calmer.
